Minister's Introduction

Welcome to the Keep Them Safe website.

Keep Them Safe is the result of the Special Commission of Inquiry into Child Protection Services in NSW. The NSW Parliament supported the majority of Justice James Wood’s recommendations to improve the child protection system in NSW.

There is no greater priority than the safety, welfare, and wellbeing of children and young people. It is for this reason that the NSW Government is committed to this five-year reform package.

On this website you’ll find information on the reforms, and the training that has been offered to date. Mandatory reporters can also access the Mandatory Reporter Guide, which assists them in making judgments about potential child wellbeing concerns. If this is your first visit to the website, the Frequently Asked Questions could be a good place to start.

These reforms are about a new way of supporting children, young people, and families. This focus means a new collaborative partnership with the non-government sector and a shared responsibility focus.

This is the most significant child protection reform to take place in this country and an enormous undertaking, but the improved wellbeing outcomes for children and young people is worth it. I look forward to working with you all to continue implementing these crucial reforms.
