The Association of Children’s Welfare Agencies (ACWA) would like to extend an invitation to child protection and human services employees to attend the Children in a Changing World – Challenges for Families and Communities conference.
The conference, titled ‘ACWA 2014’, will be held on August 18 – 20 at the SMC Conference and Function Centre Sydney.
‘ACWA 2014’ will deliver a unique opportunity to hear international speakers discussing the latest research impacting children, their families and the communities in which they live. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn from experts in the local Australian context by participating in exciting workshops and direct presentations.
The program includes contemporary themes embracing child protection, the impact of neglect on child development outcomes, emerging themes and legislation in permanency and out-of-home care (including adoption), and poverty and disadvantage in particular communities, for example refugees. Networking opportunities will be paramount and a full social program will be provided, with the second opportunity for nominations to be made for the Excellence Awards in individual, program and organisational practice.
Agencies are also invited to submit an abstract for the conference. As in previous years, the Scientific Program Committee will be convened by Associate Professor Dr. Elizabeth Fernandez, and ACWA would like to extend their thanks to the University of New South Wales for supporting this involvement. To submit your abstract, please visit http://acwa2014.com.au/program/call-for-abstracts. The call for abstract submissions closes on April 1 2014.
‘ACWA 2014’ is unique in being the only Australian child and family related conference of international scale, organised and run totally by the sector and for the sector. Non-government and public sector employees and colleagues will all be made very welcome.
